Sacrificial peas.

24th July ‘25

It seems like the land has been shouting at us to leave it well alone during this particularly hot and glaringly sunny month but this week Phil and Steve cracked open the rock hard soil on one of the beds in the poly tunnel and added some compost along with a good soaking of water and transplanted some of the lettuce seedlings. There are so many more still to go in and they do seem happy.

As they don’t usually get much attention, I’ve shared the Bay, the Juniper and Carole’s plant that survived a strimming by Joe!! Nature is impressively hardwired to do its thing; very little seems to stop it! Phewee!

We also had to sacrifice the peas in the end. We just couldn’t get water over the whole area in enough quantity when it was desperate and slthough the gardens are still super thirsty at least they aren’t being scorched now. It will be interesting to see if the peas germinate as seeds next year and if we get any plants. Oh the joys…!

This week has also seen quite a few people finding their way down to our table and on down to find us in the gardens to be shown around. It is such a pleasure meeting our supporters and customers and having such interesting and aligned conversations with them. We are so grateful.
