Evidence of mycelium

6th Nov ‘26

I have been pondering on what’s going on with the mycelium at Griffin for a little while now as I’ve never seen any mushrooms apart from the Giant Puffball that once appeared in the poly tunnel…..and then this week I spotted these unusual jobbies! Kirstie identified them as Shaggy Ink Caps…. They are all in the way of where we walk, pushing up through the grass but it gives me huge pleasure to witness that the underground world is alive and kicking here at Griffin Growers.

Phil and I have been on a mission to keep going with the seed sorting, saving and labelling this year. After a couple of huge mislabeling errors last year, this is an area that needs much more attention to detail and care. But the great news is that our giant fridge is coming tomorrow so not only will we see how much it swamps the Old Shed but we will be able to get the seed in a much more stable environment.

Our chickens are giving us endless pleasure - Fifty Shades, the Cockerel is very protective of his flock of ladies; Roibos, Jasmine and Lady Grey. They are getting bolder all the time!

Also some pictures of Trudi’s dedicated work on Friday and of our table. Now that we are fully in Autumn we’ll be harvesting and filling the table just once a week on a Friday going forward, until everything runs out. We have produce from other growers from time to time on our table as they are willing to offer what they have in abundance. Currently we are grateful for extra pumpkins, chillies and black radish…..
