Sparkling Leaves

We had some rain yesterday! It was torrential enough to penetrate the soil and for all the sparkling leaves to seem to breathe a sigh of thirsty relief! The photos show the seedlings rapidly turning into plants - peas, carrots, beetroot, kale, chard potatoes, beans, spinach, sweetcorn and courgettes…all coming on nicely. We could do with a regular downpour like that.

The french drain across our gate is filled to the brim with the carpark surface, so the rainwater washed straight over it and on down onto our pathway, creating rivulets, as it always has. The gully that I scraped out to tidy before the open day is now filled with the carpark again….there are always pros and cons to every situation, including being down hill of everything!

However, our beautiful table on the garden gate is doing its job perfectly! There are so many of our strawberries from the poly tunnel to put out on the table in containers that we have sourced from, our neighbours, The Wiltshire Scrap Store; alongside the plants and seedlings and people are definitely coming to shop with us. It feels so good.

The rapberry bed needs a really good weeding, not least because the peonie in the midst of the raspberries is about to burst into so many blooms, we don’t want to miss it! It also needs netting. We need to carry on digging over the brassica netted beds below the poly tunnel and to hoe through the parsnips and onions, amongst all the other things! It’s getting to be that time of year - very exciting!
