Only 1 Purple Violette plant this year.

26th June ‘25

The gardens are looking so lush and I wanted to share but my camera just doesn’t do the scenes justice!

The peas are SO happy with their cane extensions - there are plenty ready to pick, pod and freeze as well as enough to put on the table too. The only 3 sisters of the year are strong and healthy. It’s madness that we only mangaed to germinate 1 Purple Violette climbing french bean this year. I’m not sure what has happened to all our seed. We didn’t manage to germinate any Borlottis and these 2 have been our staples every year to date. The rest of the bed seems happy enough being only 2 sisters….the corn and squash are growing apace.

I’m so pleased we sowed Lacy Phacelia as a bedding plant and eventually planted them out next to the bean bed. Usually it’s sown in fields as a cover crop and the bees go mad for it. It has a very beautiful spiralic head of blue/purple flowers. I think we’ll keep this bed as a mix of intentional Phacelia and Borage going forward….

Talking of flowers the Hollyhocks are blooming in earnest now in their incredible array of pinks and creams and the Lavender is a gorgeous shock of purple. What with the Nasturtium, Calendula, Cosmos and Lupin flowers, we are so lucky!
