It's hot hot hot...at the start of May!

It’s hot, hot, hot! It’s worth tying long hair back as the bees have been swarming/mating each day and one of the hives is particularly hot and bothered. It's all round more calm if they can't get stuck in the free flowing hair so easily!!

In the photos you'll see we've planted 2 beds of peas and sown a bed of french beans...the sweetcorn, carrots , beetroot and parsnips are making an appearance, the garlic is doing well and the strawberries are already being picked and hoarded by something!!

The currants need netting again now; the apple trees down in the lower orchard are protected enough to still have their blossom blooming and the 'weed' that's sharing the leek bed is interesting! Very pretty! You can see that the slugs are doing their level best with some of the tomato plants and the transplanted self-seedlings are going well from the table....it feels really good to be spreading the offerings by nature in this way, sending plants out to their new homes rather than the only option being our compost pile.

Abundance everywhere! It's difficult to keep up with it!

Oh and I wanted to mention the stunning aquilegia in the poly tunnel alongside a very keen borage! The bees will be happy!

We are looking forward to seeing our volunteers tomorrow as there's lots of bed prepping to do and netting, transplanting, salad bags to make up and general tidying to do of the paths etc in readiness for the open day next weekend.
